A clear understanding of the physical concepts of the venous hemodynamics improves the knowledge, diagnosis and treatment of the venous insufficiency. For this reason they will be presented, defined and weighted according to their physiologic and pathologic incidence.
Pressure and energy are central concepts of the fluid mechanics thus to the venous hemodynamics. Unfortunately, these concepts are frequently misused because of their confused definitions.
