Lorenzo Ghiadoni (Pisa, May 18th, 1967) was graduated MD in 1992, PhD in 1996 and Internal Medicine Specialist in 2001. He is currently Associate Professor in Internal Medicine, Director of the Emergency Medicine postgraduate training program, President of the Nursing Degree Course at the University of Pisa and Head of the Emergency Medicine Unit at University Hospital of Pisa.
He was Member of the Executive Committee of the Artery Society (2014-2015) and of the Italian Society of Hypertension (2015-19) and currently he is Treasurer of Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care. He is Editor of Emergency Care Journal, Associate Editor of Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases and member of the Editorial Board of European Heart Journal; American Journal of Hypertension. His scientific interest on internal and emergency medicine is documented by of 245 publications on peer reviewed journals with an impact factor of 1150 (“Institute of Scientific Information” of “Journal of Citation Report”, 2020) and h-index of 58 (“Scopus”).

Prof. Ivo Casagranda was born in Bedollo near Trento (Italy) in 1952. He graduated in Medicine in 1978, he specialized in Internal Medicine in 1983, in Hematology in 1986 and in Respiratory Pathophysiology and Pulmonary Rehabilitation in 1989. In addition, he obtained a master in Communication and Science Journalism in 2009. In 1993, he was appointed Head of Emergency Department at the General Hospital of Rovereto (Trento) and in 1997 he moved with the same position at the General Hospital of Alessandria (Italy), from which he retired on June 2017. Prof. Casagranda is currently Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Pavia. He has been Adjunct Professor for many years at the Specialization School of Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Clinical Toxicology at the University of Pavia. In 1996, he attended the Specialization School of Emergency Medicine and at the Emergency Department of Kalamazoo State University (Michigan); in 2000, he attended the Emergency Department of Parkland Memorial Hospital and Baylord Medical Center, Dallas (Texas). With regards to the scientific activity, he published more than 100 articles in many peer-reviewed journals. As an invited speaker, he took part in more than 200 national and international congresses, courses and seminars. He is co-founder and formerly President of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care (AcEMC), co-founder and vice-president of the Italian Society of Emergency Medicine (SIMEU), co-founder and board member of the Italian Multidisciplinary Group for Syncope Study (GIMSI). In addition, he is founder and currently Editor-in-Chief of the Emergency Care Journal, the AcEMC’s official journal. His main areas of research include organization and administration in emergency medicine, acid-base and hydroelectrolyte disorders, use of biomarkers in emergency medicine and management of patients with syncope in emergency department.

Prof. Gianfranco Cervellin was born in Venice (Italy) on June the 30th, 1955. He has taken the degree in Medicine in 1980, the specialization in Gerontology and Geriatrics in 1984, and the specialization in Cardiology in 1988. He currently serves as Chief Physician at the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital of Parma (Italy), and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Parma (Italy). As regards the scientific activity, he has published more than 280 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has participated to more than 300 national and international congresses, and has given more than 100 lectures to national and international meetings. He is President of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care (AcEMC), an interdisciplinary Academy, dealing with several fields of emergency medicine and care, member of the Italian Society of Emergency medicine (SIMEU), Associate Editor of the Emergency Care Journal, Associate Editor of Acta Biomedica, and Guest Editor of Annals of Translational Medicine. The main areas of research include diagnostics of the acute coronary syndrome, syncope, management of abdominal emergencies, trauma, anaphylaxis, geriatric emergencies (in particular falls and fractures).

Prof. Daniele Coen graduated in Medicine and specialised in Hematology at the University of Milano. For about 18 years he worked in the Emergency Department at the Rho Hospital and attended the Mario Negri Institute of Pharmacological Research , where he also acted as the Editor of the institute journal. In 1999 he was appointed Head of Emergency Medicine at the Civil Hospital of Parma and in 2001 he moved with the same position at Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda in Milano, from which he retired December 2015. Dr. Coen was Adjunct Professor at the School of Internal Medicine – University of Milano from 2002 to 2015 and at the School of Emergency Medicine – University of Milano Bicocca from 2012 to 2015. He served as a UNICEF consultant to develop the Ghana National Formulary of essential drugs, was an active member of the European Association of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and served on the National Board of the Italian Society of Emergency Medicine (SIMEU). Dr. Coen is an Associate Editor of Internal and Emergency Journal, and is a permanent member of the National Board of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care (AcEMC). His main fields of interest and research are sepsis and clinical pharmacology.

She currently works in Emergency Department of University Hospital of Pisa. She deals with clinical, didactic and research activities in the field of Emergency Medicine with specific interest in thoracic imaging.

Dr. Erika Poggiali was born in Milan on October 30th, 1979. She was graduated MD at the San Raffaele University of Milan in 2004 and she became Internal Medicine specialist in 2011 after a period of study at University College of London in the red cell disorder team (Prof. Porter), developing competences and skills in iron metabolism disorders. From 2012 to 2015 she worked at Policlinico Ca’ Granda of Milan in the Internal Medicine Department and Rare Diseases Center, becoming a clinical university researcher. Her studies and publications were focused on hemoglobinopathies, thalassemias, IRIDA and Gaucher syndrome. She was member of REL group and professor of Internal Medicine for the Nursing School of Besta Hospital in Milan. In 2016 she worked in the Emergency Department of San Raffaele Hospital and later in the Immuno-rheumatology Unit. Since 2017 she works in the Emergency Department (emergency room, 118) of Guglielmo da Saliceto Hospital in Piacenza.

Dr. Veronica Salvatore graduated in Medicine at the University of Bologna in 2007 and she obtained a PhD in Ultrasonography with mention of Doctoer Europaeus in 2011. She specialized in Internal Medicine in 2017 at the University of Bologna. Then, for about two years, she worked in the ED of AUSL of Bologna and in 2019 she moved to Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria of Bologna. She has given lectures to national and international meeting about ultrasound, especially in hepatology. She gained a peer review grant by Health Ministry in 2009 (Giovani Ricercatori) as principal investigator. Her main field of interest are ultrasonography and hepatology.
