Lorenzo Ghiadoni, Dipartimento di Medicina Clinica e Sperimentale, Università di Pisa, Italy

Lorenzo Ghiadoni (Pisa, May 18th, 1967) was graduated MD in 1992, PhD in 1996 and Internal Medicine Specialist in 2001. He is currently Associate Professor in Internal Medicine, Director of the Emergency Medicine postgraduate training program, President of the Nursing Degree Course at the University of Pisa and Head of the Emergency Medicine Unit at the University Hospital of Pisa. 
He was Member of the Executive Committee of the Artery Society (2014-2015) and of the Italian Society of Hypertension (2015-19) and currently he is Treasurer of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Emergency Care Journal, Associate Editor of Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases and a member of the Editorial Board of European Heart Journal; American Journal of Hypertension. His scientific interest in internal and emergency medicine is documented by 245 publications on peer reviewed journals with an impact factor of 1150 (CLARIVATE©, Journal of Citation Report, 2021) and an h-index of 58 (Scopus).

Ivo Casagranda
Past Director, Medicina e Chirurgia d’Accettazione e d’Urgenza, Azienda Ospedaliera Nazionale Santi Antonio e Biagio e Cesare Arrigo, Alessandria, Italy

Prof. Ivo Casagranda was born in Bedollo near Trento (Italy) in 1952. He graduated in Medicine in 1978, specialized in Internal Medicine in 1983, in Hematology in 1986 and in Respiratory Pathophysiology and Pulmonary Rehabilitation in 1989. In addition, he obtained a master in Communication and Science Journalism in 2009. In 1993, he was appointed Head of the Emergency Department at the General Hospital of Rovereto (Trento) and in 1997 he moved to the same position at the General Hospital of Alessandria (Italy), from which he retired on June 2017. Prof. Casagranda is currently an Adjunct Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Pavia, Italy. He has been Adjunct Professor for many years at the Specialization School of Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Clinical Toxicology at the University of Pavia. In 1996, he attended the Specialization School of Emergency Medicine and at the Emergency Department of Kalamazoo State University (Michigan); in 2000, he attended the Emergency Department of Parkland Memorial Hospital and Baylord Medical Center, Dallas (Texas), USA. With regards to scientific activity, he published more than 100 articles in many peer-reviewed journals. As an invited speaker, he took part in more than 200 national and international congresses, courses and seminars. He is co-founder and former President of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care (AcEMC), co-founder and vice-president of the Italian Society of Emergency Medicine (SIMEU), co-founder and board member of the Italian Multidisciplinary Group for Syncope Study (GIMSI). In addition, he is the founder of the Emergency Care Journal, the AcEMC’s official journal. His main areas of research include organization and administration in emergency medicine, acid-base and hydroelectrolyte disorders, use of biomarkers in emergency medicine and management of patients with syncope in emergency department.

Mario Cavazza, Dipartimento dell'Emergenza-Urgenza, Policlinico S. Orsola-Malpighi, Bologna, Italy

Dr. Mario Cavazza was born in Bologna (Italy) on January 14th, 1953. He graduated in Medicine in 1977, specializing in Cardiology in 1980 and Gerontology and Geriatrics in 1986. He had been an intern, resident and then assistant professor in Internal Medicine at the Academic  Hospital of Bologna (Italy) until 1988. Afterwards he moved to the Emergency Room in the same hospital, were he worked for 12 years. From 2001 to 2005 he served as Chief Physician at the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital of Parma (Italy), and as Adjunct  Professor at Postgraduate course in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine and Geriatrics at the same University. In 2005 he  became Chief of the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital of Bologna (Italy)  and adjunct Professor at Postgraduate course in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Sport Medicine  and Geriatrics. In 2020 he retired from clinical activity, but he continues teaching students. Regarding the scientific activity, he has published more than 100 articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals. He participated to more than 200 national and international congresses, as an organizing member, speaker or moderator. He has been member of the Italian Society of Emergency Medicine (SIMEU) and teacher in advanced SIMEU courses for members, concerning emergency cardiology topics. Furthermore he has been one of the founding members of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care (AcEMC), an interdisciplinary Academy, dealing with several fields of emergency medicine and care. He has been on behalf of the Academy organizer and director of advanced courses on emergency medicine topics, mainly dedicated to young emergency physicians. After holding the position of Editor in Chief of the Emergency Care Journal for 4 years, he is now Associated Editor of the same journal. The main areas of research have included diagnostics of the acute coronary syndrome, cardiac arrhythmias, syncope and usefulness of biomarkers in many emergency conditions.

Gianfranco Cervellin, Dipartimento di Emergenza-Urgenza, Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Parma, Parma, Italy

Prof. Gianfranco Cervellin was born in Venice (Italy) on June the 30th, 1955. He has taken a degree in Medicine in 1980, a specialization in Gerontology and Geriatrics in 1984, and the specialization in Cardiology in 1988. He currently serves as Chief Physician at the Emergency Department of the Academic Hospital of Parma (Italy), and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Parma (Italy). As regards scientific activity, he has published more than 280 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has participated in more than 300 national and international congresses, and has given more than 100 lectures to national and international meetings. He is President of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care (AcEMC), an interdisciplinary Academy, dealing with several fields of emergency medicine and care, a member of the Italian Society of Emergency medicine (SIMEU), Associate Editor of the Emergency Care Journal, Associate Editor of Acta Biomedica, and Guest Editor of Annals of Translational Medicine. The main areas of research include diagnostics of acute coronary syndrome, syncope, management of abdominal emergencies, trauma, anaphylaxis, geriatric emergencies (in particular falls and fractures).

Daniele Coen, Dipartimento di Emergenza-Urgenza, Ospedale Niguarda Ca’ Granda, Milano, Italy

Prof. Daniele Coen graduated in Medicine and specialised in Hematology at the University of Milano. For about 18 years he worked in the Emergency  Department at the  Rho Hospital and attended the Mario Negri Institute of Pharmacological Research, where he also acted as the Editor of the institute journal. In 1999 he was appointed Head of Emergency Medicine at the Civil Hospital of Parma and in 2001 he moved to the same position at Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda in Milano, from which he retired in December 2015. Dr. Coen was  Adjunct Professor at the School of Internal Medicine – University of Milano from 2002 to 2015 and at the School of Emergency Medicine – University of Milano Bicocca from 2012 to 2015. He served as a UNICEF consultant to develop the Ghana National Formulary of essential drugs, was an active member of the European Association of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and served on the National Board of the Italian Society of Emergency Medicine (SIMEU). Dr. Coen is an Associate Editor of the Emergency Care Journal, and is a permanent member of the National Board of the Academy of Emergency Medicine and Care (AcEMC). His main fields of interest and research are sepsis and clinical pharmacology.

Greta Barbieri, Department of Surgical, Medical, Molecular and Critical Area Pathology, University of Pisa; Emergency Medicine Department, Pisa University Hospital, Italy

Dr. Greta Barbieri was born in Orbetello (Grosseto) on January 14th, 1988. She was graduated MD at the University of Florence, in 2013. She obtained Emergency Medicine post-graduate Specialization at University of Pisa, 2019. She was Research grant holder at University of Pisa on projects related to ultrasound in acute cardiovascular disease and she is currently a PhD student in Clinical Pathophysiology on projects about traumatic coagulopathy. During COVID-19 emergency she was referent for thoracic ultrasound at the COVID-19 medical area of University Hospital of Pisa, dealing with frontline clinical activity, ultrasound and research activities. She currently works in Emergency Department of University Hospital of Pisa. She deals with clinical, didactic and research activities in the field of Emergency Medicine with specific interest in thoracic imaging.

Erika Poggiali, Emergency Department, “Guglielmo da Saliceto” Hospital, Piacenza, Italy

Dr. Erika Poggiali was born in Milan on October 30th, 1979. She was graduated MD at the San Raffaele University of Milan in 2004 and she became Internal Medicine specialist in 2011 after a period of study at University College of London in the red cell disorder team (Prof. Porter), developing competences and skills in iron metabolism disorders. From 2012 to 2015 she worked at Policlinico Ca’ Granda of Milan in the Internal Medicine Department and Rare Diseases Center, becoming a clinical university researcher. Her studies and publications were focused on hemoglobinopathies, thalassemias, IRIDA and Gaucher syndrome. She was member of REL group and professor of Internal Medicine for the Nursing School of Besta Hospital in Milan. In 2016 she worked in the Emergency Department of San Raffaele Hospital and later in the Immuno-rheumatology Unit. Since 2017 she works in the Emergency Department (emergency room, 118) of Guglielmo da Saliceto Hospital in Piacenza.

Francesco Salinaro, Emergency Department, Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo, Pavia, Italy

Francesco Salinaro was born in Francavilla Fontana, Italy, in 1984. He received the Ph.D. degree in Experimental Medicine from University of Pavia, Italy in 2018. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery and got Internal Medicine Specialty from University of Pavia in 2008 and 2014 respectively. He works in the Emergency Department of San Matteo Hospital, Pavia, as a Medical Doctor. He is contract professor of Emergency Medicine for University of Pavia. His research is focused on Emergency and Cardiovascular Medicine. 

Veronica Salvatore, Emergency Department, Division of Medicina d'urgenza e Pronto Soccorso, IRCCS Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna, Italy

Dr. Veronica Salvatore graduated in Medicine at the University of Bologna in 2007 and she obtained a PhD in Ultrasonography with mention of Doctoer Europaeus in 2011. She specialized in Internal Medicine in 2017 at the University of Bologna. Then, for about two years, she worked in the ED of AUSL of Bologna and in 2019 she moved to Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria of Bologna. She has given lectures to national and international meeting about ultrasound, especially in hepatology. She gained a peer review grant by Health Ministry in 2009 (Giovani Ricercatori) as principal investigator. Her main field of interest are ultrasonography and hepatology.
