Emeritus Professor of Zoology after November 2019. In 1987, Prof. Brandmayr became a full professor of Zoology at the University of Calabria, Department of Ecology, Zoology Section, Calabria. Now, he is active in the Department of Biology, Ecology and Earth Science (DiBEST). His main teaching activities included biological sciences, zoology, and ecology. Among his academic charges, there are President of the Campus (residences) of the University of Calabria since 1997; President of the ANDISU, Ass. nazionale degli Enti per il Diritto allo studio (Italian Student Assistance and Welfare Association) from 2004 to 2008. He has been a member of 10 national or international scientific societies, especially in the fields of zoology, entomology, and ecology, e.g., Royal Entomological Society of London; Unione Zoologica Italiana; Società Italiana di Entomologia; Società Italiana di Ecologia (from 1979); Società Italiana di Etologia and others. He was the coordinator of activities of the Unione Zoologica Italiana for faunal protection as president of the “Fauna Commission” 1994-2002 and the coordinator of the Natura 2000 Italian Network for the Ministry for Environment and Territory in the years 1994-1999 (Project "Bioitaly" for Natura 2000 net and pSCI mapping). From 2017 to 2021, he was the President of the Unione Zoologica Italiana. His main research fields are “zoocoenoses” and biomes of the Mediterranean area studied using carabid beetles as environmental indicators, fauna and environmental impact, management of fauna in protected areas, systematics of larval and adult Carabid beetles, and their use as indicators of anthropogenic changes in the environment, predatory, antipredatory and presocial behavior of Carabid Beetles, bionomy (life traits), developmental biology and immunology of Carabid beetles. Recently, his research has focused on global change consequences on community structures and biodiversity patterns of ground beetles in alpine and Mediterranean environments. He was the coordinator of the CHECKmap Project for the electronic database of Italian species of vertebrate and invertebrate fauna financed by the Ministry for Environment in the years 1997-2003. He has been involved in several studies and projects on E.I.A. procedures in Calabria and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, especially about faunal biodiversity mapping. He is the author of about 300 scientific papers.

Professor Emeritus. Prof. Trematerra graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Milan (Italy). He was an associate professor at the University of Tuscia (Viterbo, Italy) and at the University of Molise (Campobasso, Italy). From 2001, Prof. Trematerra was a full professor in General and Applied Entomology at the University of Molise. He has held numerous institutional roles as rector delegate, member of the university board of directors, coordinator of PhD courses, and Doctoral School in Plant Production and Protection. He serves as an expert in national and international institutions. He is an editorial board member of the Bulletin of Entomological Research, Crop Protection, Frontiers in Chemical Ecology, Journal of Applied Entomology, Journal of Entomological and Acarological Research, Journal of Stored Products Research, Insects, Plants, and Scientific Reports. He serves as a reviewer for many other reputed international journals. His research interests include the biology and ecology of insect pests, the application of new methods in integrated pest management, stored product protection, and the systematics of Lepidoptera Tortricidae. He has numerous collaborations and is currently involved in national and international research projects. He published 7 books and more than 500 works, many in reputed international journals.

Insect Ecology
Daniela Lupi, Department of Food, Nutrition and Environmental Sciences, University of Milan, Italy.
E-mail: daniela.lupi@unimi.it | ORCID
Daniela Lupi is an associate professor of Applied Entomology at the Department of Sciences for Food, Nutrition and the Environment, University of Milan (Italy). She obtained her PhD at the Alma Mater Studiorum of Bologna (Italy) on the biology of an insect useful in biological control. Subsequently, she was a research fellow at the University of Milan, where she continued her research activities. Since 2005, she has been a researcher at the same university, also being awarded the title of aggregate professor at the same university. In 2019, she became an associate professor. She has an extensive academic background with teaching experience in applied entomology, plant protection, and biotechnology. She is involved in supervising doctoral research and serving as a member of multiple Ph.D. committees. Her research activities mainly focus on the biological control of agricultural pests, integrated pest management, and insect biodiversity and are also oriented on insect behavior, ecology, and pest management, as well as the study of the biology and application of several interesting potential control agents for the control of invasive alien species. Other key research topics are related to the effect of various anthropogenic factors (including plant protection products) on beneficial insects and, in particular, honey and wild bees. Since 2019, she has been the section editor in ‘Insect Ecology’ of the Journal of Entomological and Acarological Research and, since 2022, the subject editor in ‘Pollinator Ecology and Management’ of the journal Environmental Entomology. Daniela Lupi has been actively involved in the IOBC-WPRS working group ‘Landscape management for functional biodiversity’ after joining the first meeting in Bologna (Italy) in 2003. Recently, she was the local organizer of the 9th meeting of the group in Milan (Italy), 7-10 June 2022, and was appointed vice-chair of the group on that occasion.
