Manuela Malatesta - University of Verona

Manuela Malatesta graduated in Biological Sciences summa cum laude at the University of Urbino, Italy (1989). She has been fellow of the Italian Ministry of University and Scientific and Technological Research (1991) at the Centre of Electron Microscopy of the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, where she was then Assistant (1992-1995). Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, University of Urbino, Italy (1996-2006), she was then Assistant Professor at the School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Verona, Italy (2006-2014) where she presently is Associate Professor of Human Anatomy. Since 2008, Manuela Malatesta is a Member of the board of the Italian Society for Microscopical Sciences (SISM) and Assistant Editor of the European Journal of Histochemistry. Her main research interests in cell biology concern skeletal muscle atrophy/dystrophy, ageing and in vitro senescence, and hypometabolism, with special attention to RNA synthesis and post-transcriptional processing. Recently, she also investigated the effects of nanoparticle administration, photodynamic therapy and ozone exposure in cell systems in vitro. Morphological and immunonohistochemical methods at transmission electron microscopy were mainly used, often in association with conventional and confocal fluorescence microscopy, biochemistry, cytometry and nuclear magnetic resonance. She authored more than 150 full papers in qualified journals and 5 book chapters.
