The Italian Association of Veterinary Food Hygienists (AIVI) is a scientific, non-profit association based in Ozzano dell’Emilia, Italy, and is associated to the University of Bologna – Alma Mater Studiorum.
The principal goal of AIVI is to promote theoretical and practical research on topics dealing with food hygiene and control in order to promote food safety.
AIVI favors scientific and technical collaboration with scientific societies. It organizes meetings and discussions among representatives of food processing industry, scientific research institutes, official institutions responsible for the control of food of animal origin and other professionals providing advice and assistance on quality and hygiene certification.
AIVI works together with public companies and institutions interested in the technological progress of livestock breeding, and animal health and welfare. For instance, it co-operates with the Italian Ministry of Health, regional institutions, and local health institutes. The ultimate goal is to ensure food safety, with particular reference to hygienic production, transport and distribution of food of animal origin and products thereof.
For several years, AIVI has been the point of reference for veterinary food hygienists, specialists in the food industry, and other experts offering technical support and advice on food safety.
In April 2012, AIVI was accredited as the national ECM provider by the National Commission for Continuing Medical Education, CME (Educazione Continua in Medicina, ECM) of the Italian Ministry of Health. This accreditaion allows AIVI to be registered in the national board of CME providers (no. 1825), and to organize programs and educational events for: Veterinary Surgeons, Biologists, and Prevention Technicians.
